Hong Kong stocks opened slightly lower on the first trading day of December. The Hang Seng Index opened 24 points lower at 17,019 points and fell 117 points or 0.7% in half a day to 16,926 points; the H-Share Enterprise Index rose 59 points or 1% to 5,798 points; the Hang Seng Technology Index fell 62 points or 1.6% to 3,838 points. The market turnover was HK$ 46 bn. Education stocks continued to perform well, with Scholar Education (1769) and Virscend Education (1565) rose 18.2% and 13.6% respectively. Consumer stocks were generally under pressure today, with JiuMaojiu (9922), which was removed from the MSCI China index, fell 7.2%.
