The U.S. implemented additional tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada, and Hong Kong stock market fell on the first trading day after the Chinese New Year holiday. The HSI opened 176 points lower and then widened its losses, falling 149 points or 0.7% at mid-day to 20,075; the HSCEI fell 59 points or 0.8% to 7,322; and the HSTECH fell 31 points or 0.7% to 4,691. The total market turnover was HK$78.68bn. Alibaba Cloud launched an upgraded version of “Tongyi Qianwen”, claiming it surpasses DeepSeek. Alibaba (9988) share price rose 5.2% at mid-day. The U.S. withdrew tariff exemptions for small packages, and JD.com (9618) fell 3.4%.
