Hong Kong stocks fell first and then recovered today. The HSI opened 59 points lower and then rose 134 points to exceed 19,000. It rose 88 points, or 0.5%, to 19,052 points at mid-day; the HSCEI rose 26 points, or 0.4%, to 6,745; the HSTECH rose 40 points, or 1%, to 4,002. The total mid-day turnover of the market was HK$79.06bn. Chinese technology stocks generally rose, with Alibaba (9988) and Tencent (0700) rising 4.1% and 1.3% respectively. Ping An of China (2318) reduced its holdings in HSBC (0005), which fell 0.4% at mid-day.
