The new policy tool announced in September, the RMB 500 billion swap facility SFISF, officially came into effect. The Hang Seng Index opened 409 points higher at 21,046 points, rose 871 points or 4.2% in half a day to 21,508 points; the HSCEI index rose 362 points or 4.9 %, reported at 7,728 points; the Hang Seng Technology Index rose 192 points, or 4.1%, to 4,833 points. The total half-day turnover of the market was HK$177.14 billion. Guotai Junan (2611) and Haitong Securities (6837) announced their merger plans, and their stock prices rose 69% and 102% respectively.
